50 Licks is alright with me!

If you have ever been to Portland, Oregon, you are aware of the many places that you can grab some amazing cocktails. Well move on over amazing cocktails cuz there is a new kid on the block serving up cocktails with some magical ice cream.

Ice cream! Thats right, not only does 50 licks (www.fifty-licks.com) serve you up some thirst quenching cocktails, they are pairing them up with their in-house, small batch made ice cream.

Date night will never be the same.

This is really one stop shopping for a first date...

50 Licks knows that to get some tasty ice cream, you only need use a high butterfat content in an egg custard base sans any chemicals, which isn't too sweet that really allow for the flavors to do their thing, flavor that ice cream.

Now, because I am a total lush. I ordered every sorbet cocktail that they had to offer and I finished it off with a little something called a cuban coffee to make sure I was tipsy and jacked up to get me going for my Saturday night in Portland.

I had The Furacao, The Bitter Rose, The Nordic Palmer and the one that stole the show from my already overworked liver, The Velvet Shiso.

The Velvet Shiso is served in an old style cocktail glass with a shiso leaf, Plum wine, AlexEli Reisling and Coconut Lemon Saffron Sorbet. I usually really dislike Reisling's I find them to be to sweet, even for my taste buds. But paired with the Coconut Lemon Saffron Sorbet, it really is, in the wise words of Disney's Aladdin "A whole new world" for the Reisling that is...

I don't even feel right calling this sorbet, a sorbet. Made with coconut milk, it is just and rich and creamy as any ice cream you could have.

Don't feel you need to limit yourself to go to 50 licks just on a date night. They have a seasonal ice cream menu that, uhm, well, changes as the seasons change. This is Portland, I believe its almost the law to use local, sustainable, seasonal, farmers market ingredients that is kind to chickens.

Bottoms up!
